Volunteering Your Time & Talents
Volunteering is a very rewarding way to give of yourself and your expertise. There are different ways that you can impact the community positively by volunteering. The rewards are as unique and as personal as the reasons for wanting to volunteer. As a hotline volunteer you can volunteer from the comfort of your own home. You will receive ongoing training from the agency that will allow you to provide this critical service. The hotline is forwarded to the volunteer's home weekdays after office hours and on weekends as well as holidays. Hotline volunteers provide information and referral to the caller as well as connect victims with the on-call Crisis Advocate.
If you prefer to work with people face to face, volunteering as an advocate may be the job for you. Volunteer advocates provide support service intakes and screening to walk-in individuals seeking assistance during office hours. However, there are many more opportunities such as fundraising, board member, clerical, children's activities groups, special events as well as the Bits and Pieces Thrift Store. Please print out the Volunteer application form, fill it out and send it to the main office of the Family Crisis Center or email it. The Volunteer Manager will contact you within a short time to schedule an interview and match your talents to a position.
For college students seeking internships through your college you can either contact the Volunteer Manager or for clinical internships you can contact the clinical staff at the Bastrop office.

Testimonials from Volunteers
From N. W.
"Keeping my mind focused on others and knowing my time spent as a volunteer helps others with bigger problems helps me work through my own lesser problems. I also have made many new friends with my fellow workers and customers we serve. Knowing that I can help abuse, flood or fire victims is what helps me feel my life is being lived to its fullest. "
From O.
"Hotline for families in need is a rewarding and self-nurturing experience for me. I'm a giver/caretaker and this fills a need that I have. I believe everybody needs somebody at some given time in life. It is great that I can do this from my home.
Hotline opens communications with someone that the client doesn't have to come face to face with. It frees them from personal contact and they can open up and reveal more readily. Like my foster children could usually tell me more about their past lives, when the lights were off at bedtime and it was a prayer time. Be a listener, and they sometimes solve their own problems. Then you can direct them to other establishments for further guidance."
