Prevention Education
The Prevention Education team provides education and awareness to women, children and men by giving them the tools, resources and knowledge to empower them to create a safe place to live. Violence Prevention Programs are offered in elementary, middle, and high schools educating students how to recognize early warning signs of danger and get safely away from bullying, sexual harassment, sexual assault, sexual abuse, relationship violence, date and acquaintance rape. These programs are age appropriate and school approved curriculums.
Evaluations indicate that children who participate in these programs are learning important safety concepts and problem-solving skills.
Teen Violence Prevention Programs (TVPP)
Teen Violence Prevention Programs (TVPP) offers a variety of educational programs and trainings to raise awareness and decrease tolerance of violence, sexual harassment, and dating violence among teenagers. Through skill-based activities, and interactive discussions, students are provided an opportunity to address and explore violence prevention strategies that will help reduce violence in schools and dating relationships. Middle & High Schools are offered presentations on the topics such as bullying, sexual harassment, dating violence, acquaintance rape and healthy vs. unhealthy relationships. Presentations are adapted for specific grades 6-12. The students are given comprehensive informational handouts, which include local and national resources.
Child Assault Prevention Programs (CAPP)
Child Assault Prevention Programs (CAPP) are types of presentations that teach children prevention techniques against all types of abuse including emotional abuse, physical abuse, sexual abuse and neglect. In addition, internet safety training is offered to help children understand the dangers and threats from potential internet predators. Guided discussions, role-plays, interactive activities and media are used to each child how to identify uncomfortable and confusing situations that may be created by a stranger, a friend, or a family member. Teaching children prevention strategies can reduce their vulnerability to unsafe situations.
