VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Volunteers are an integral part of the success of all non-profit organizations. The Family Crisis Center needs more dedicated community members to offer their time and skills to help us serve clients who are experiencing domestic, sexual and or teen dating violence. Currently, the Center needs volunteers for our hotline, retail thrift store and office clerical assistance. If you are interested in participating in our volunteer program, please contact:

Bernie Jackson 512-321-7760

We believe it takes EVERYONE to stop violence.

Calendar of Events

The Family Crisis Center holds three major fundraisers a year. They are the Festival of Trees on the Saturday before Thanksgiving, the annual dance at KC Hall in La Grange, and Pedal Thru The Pines on the first Saturday of March.

In addition the Center has other drives and activities for different purposes to support the individuals that the Center serves and to create awareness in the community in order to fulfill the Center's vision of a safe community built on equality without the existence of violence.

October

  • Domestic Violence Awareness Month - CHALLENGE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE: Be Aware! - Have a cell phone? Have facebook? Wanna make your community even better? October is domestic violence awareness month and we would like to challenge everyone in our community to be engaged in the prevention process! All we are asking you to do is be aware and speak up. It's five easy steps!! Here's how it works:

    1) Set your phone for 10:00 am the following day.

    2) For the next 24 hours pay attention to your surroundings. Take ...notice of attitudes and behaviors that may be linked or lead to the issues surrounding domestic violence, whether that is verbal, physical, or emotional abuse. Pay attention to your surroundings at work, school, home, the grocery store, on television, the internet, or any other place you may go during that time period.

    3) When your alarm goes off the following day, tell someone what you learned. How often you recognized an attitude or behavior, how it made you feel, and what you are going to do to help prevent it in the future. Then challenge 3 people to do the same process. Have them set their phone for 10:00 am the following day and follow the same steps.

    4) Once you have noticed how often it occurs, then engage yourself in teaching others ways to PREVENT DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. Speak up!

    5) Then on October 28th come back and post how many people you CHALLENGED!!! (https://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=hp#!/event.php?eid=159330670824596)

August

  • TBD - Backpack distribution and school supplies for children of families who have received services at the Center in the past 12 months. Each year, the Family Crisis Center distributes new backpacks and school supplies to the children receiving services in Bastrop, Colorado, Fayette and Lee Counties. These are children that have experienced domestic or sexual violence in their families. They have been through some very difficult times. Their families are frequently facing financial struggles that prevent them from providing their children with the necessary school supplies to start the school year. The Family Crisis Center wants to help each child feel good about the new school year by sending them back to school with new backpacks and appropriate supplies, just like all the other kids. The community can get involved by picking up some extra supplies to donate, organizing a group donation drive, donating money or volunteering. (see Current needs)
For general inquiries about the Back to School Project or to volunteer your time to help sort, pack and distribute supplies, please contact Bernie
