Bits & Pieces Thrift Store
What started out as a “garage sale” in 1992 has grown into a valuable resource for the Center and the community as the Bits & Pieces Thrift Store. The thrift store has consistently generated a profit that supports programs and services for victims of domestic and sexual violence. At the same time, the thrift store offers a valuable service to the community in the form of vouchers for free items such as furniture, clothing and housewares. Vouchers for clothing can be given to individuals in need who are referred by other agencies in the area such as Children’s Advocacy Center, Bastrop County Food Pantry, Workforce Solutions, local churches etc. Large items such as furniture and beds are reserved for the Center’s clients only.
Bits & Pieces moved into a permanent location in May of 2006. After careful research and planning, it was determined that the store could finance a mortgage for a new structure at a much lower rate than it cost to lease the same size building. The move to the present location in Tahitian Village has proven to be a fiscally responsible and sound decision, increasing the profit margin of the thrift store by approximately 300%. These profits directly support the operation of the Family Crisis Center and have helped to make up revenue losses caused by decreases in state and federal funding.
The store accepts usable items for resale during regular store hours. The store is open Monday through Saturday from 9am-7pm at 4107 Hwy 71 E, Bastrop, TX, 78602. For more information on special sales, donating or volunteering, contact the store at 512-332-0028.
