Bits & Pieces Thrift Store
What started out as a “garage sale” in 1992 has grown into a valuable resource for the Center and the community as the Bits & Pieces Thrift Store. The thrift store has consistently generated a profit to help victims of domestic and sexual violence and at the same offered many other valuable services to the community. Advocates distribute vouchers to individuals in need for free items such as furniture, clothing and house wares. Individuals who receive vouchers are either clients of the Center or are referred by other agencies in the area such as Children’s Advocacy Center, Bastrop County Food Pantry, Workforce Solutions etc.
Bits & Pieces opened into a newly constructed building in May of 2006. After careful research and planning, it was discovered that the store could finance a mortgage at a much lower rate than it cost to lease the same size building. This move to the building in Tahitian Village in Bastrop has proven to be a fiscally responsible and sound move increasing the profit margin of the thrift store by approximately 300%. These profits directly support the operation of the Family Crisis Center and have helped make up some of the revenue losses caused by the decrease in state and federal funding.
The store accepts usable items for resale during regular store hours except for the last full week of the month. The store is open Monday through Saturday from 10-7pm at 4107 Hwy 71 E in Bastrop. For more information on special sales, donating or volunteering, contact the store at 512-332-0028.
